• Emotional Release Facilitation brings about the profound process of deep change needed by individuals whose lives are hampered by pain and fear arising from childhood trauma. By focusing on feeling submerged emotions that stand in the way of growth, it opens the way to true self-help and understanding. The process is highly effective because it accepts the premise that the only way out of painful emotions is through them.

• With the facilitator's help, compassionate self-awareness develops and memory banks are gently opened. The body is then allowed full expression and natural healing mechanisms -- tears, rage, trembling, laughter -- come forth. By connecting with long-repressed trauma, and by experiencing the feelings, rather than intellectualizing about them, one becomes flooded with new insights and released from self-destructive behaviors.

Who Benefits

• People come to the Primal Process with a wide range of concerns, including grief, depression, anxiety, guilt, rage, tendencies toward illness or accidents, phobias, sexual or relationship problems, and eating disorders.

About the Facilitator

• Barbara has had more than 25 years of experience in the Primal Process and has been a trained facilitator for the last 11 years. She incorporates Primal Process techniques, Bioenergetics, Self Acceptance Training, Imagery Rescripting for PTSD, compassion and massage.

Primal Intensives are available and vary in length from 5 days to 3 weeks.

Stephen Khamsi, Ph.D., has been practicing primal therapy since 1977. Prior to licensure in 1976, Dr. Khamsi trained at Sonoma County Mental Health and two Northern California primal clinics. Together with Belden Johnson he founded the Primal Center in Berkeley in 1979. He currently see clients both in San Francisco and El Cerrito (near Berkeley), as well as in Sonoma (all Intensives are in Sonoma).

FACILITATORS
Belden entered primal therapy in 1973, trained as a primal therapist 1976-79, and co-founded The Primal Center with Dr. Stephen Khamsi in 1979. He has also trained in bioenergetics, Gestalt, family systems, EMDR, and shamanic healing. He has written several articles on primal therapy. He met Yashi while chatting with Graham Farrant in the hot tub at the 1989 Pre and Peri Natal Psychology Association Conference.

Yashi has her doctorate in transpersonal clinical psychology and has developed healing programs using imagery and somato-emotional release with adults and children for 18 years. She has trained in Reichian and primal therapy, as well as Gestalt, family systems, process psychology, and shamanic healing. She offers three to ten day intensives not only for primal and process oriented clients, but also for people seeking healing from the challenge of a life-threatening illness.

Primal Therapy in southern England

When fundamental childhood needs are unfulfilled, the resulting hurt is buried from consciousness, so that the child can survive. Growing to adulthood, he/she tries to fulfil these unmet needs symbolically, causing self-defeating patterns, problems in relationships and jobs, tension and sometimes illness.

In Primal Therapy we help people uncover and resolve the buried pain, providing insight through feeling and understanding which, in turn, promotes change and the rediscovery of the inner child, helping people to recover their spontaneity and creativity.
